The School of Accountancy (SoA) at the University of Limpopo (UL) is the latest addition to the club of only 14 SAICA Accredited State funded Universities in South Africa. Out of the 14 state funded Universities, only the University of Limpopo currently does not have accreditation for the Certificate in the theory of Accountancy (CTA).
Hence the urgent need of the University to work towards CTA accreditation in support of the assertion by SAICA in 2012 that “The lack of a CTA programme in the SoA, against which to benchmark final year assessments, resulted in the standard of assessment in some courses being inappropriately high”.
This will assist in meeting the objective of the UL thuthuka project to identify and nurture talent from the rural areas of Limpopo and provide these students with access to a quality education and an opportunity to qualify as Chartered Accountants.
