Your first step of becoming a chartered accountant

What does the degree entail?
The Bachelor of Accounting Sciences (BAccSc) is a four-year degree course and forms part of the requirements for training as a chartered accountant CA(SA). It is followed by onepostgraduate year to obtain a BComHonsdegree or postgraduate diploma in Accounting and the Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy (CTA). Thereafter, a three-year training contract period can be completed, during which time the applicable professional qualifying examinations are written. Upon the successful completion of the three-year training contract and the qualifying examinations concerned, candidates are eligible to register with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) as a CA (SA).
 
What can be achieved with the degree?
The CA(SA) qualifications are the highest professional qualifications in accounting in South Africa and enjoy international recognition.
 
Admission Requirement for current grade 12 learners:
  • Admission Points Score of 30 calculated from 6 recognized subjects excluding life orientation.
  • Minimum NSC requirements for degree entry must be met.
  • English on at least level 4 (50-59%).
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 5 (60-69%) for Mathematics.
  • Or Mathematics at level 4 and Accounting at level 5
  • Applicants with an Admission Points Score above 28 with the above requirements are considered on a waiting list.
